Swiss shotcrete and specialty chemical supplier Sika acquired Thiessen Team USA, a manufacturer of shotcrete and grouting products that serves the mining industry in the western U.S.A. and Canada.

The move gives Sika a wider presence in mining across the Americas region, Sika said. “The offerings of Sika and Thiessen are highly complementary and opens significant cross-selling potential with new and existing mining customers,” said Christoph Ganz, Sika’s regional manager for the Americas.

Thiessen Team USA was founded as Thiessen Equipment Ltd. in 1954 by Abe J. Thiessen in British Columbia. It operates out of Elko, Nevada, and Big Timber, Montana. In 2019, Sika acquired King Packaged Materials Co. and introduced its products throughout eastern Canada. The acquisition of Thiessen will in a similar way improve access to U.S. mining operations, Ganz said. Sika plans to introduce its cement-free concrete technology for backfilling operations to the Americas.
