New DTH Rig Offers Efficient Drilling and Easier Maintenance

Introduced earlier this year, the DI550 is Sandvik Mining & Construction's newest down-the-hole drilling rig, powered by a 324-kW (435-hp) diesel engine and providing compressed-air flow at 24 bar pressure—making the rig a perfect match for a 5-in. (127-mm) DTH hammer, according to the company. The DI550 features a modern, positive-pressure cab offering advanced ergonomic design and excellent visibility, says Sandvik. A new, high-efficiency dust collector with continuous cleaning extends filter life and reduces maintenance requirements, as do other features that include the engine compartment's open layout, easy cooler cleaning, modular compressor control system and simplified electric system. All daily maintenance points are located at ground level, and a fast fuel filling option and large fuel tank further reduce downtime. Sandvik says the DI550 is designed to work at maximum performance with its RH550 hammers, ranging in size from 3 to 5 in.
