Mid-Range Dozers from Komatsu

Komatsu America’s two new mid-sized dozers— the D61EX-15 (standard ground pressure) and D61PX-15 (low ground pressure)— are powered by U.S. EPA Tier 3 certified, 168-fhp Komatsu SAA6D107E-1 diesels with air-to-air after-cooling. A power angle tilt blade offers a capacity of 4.5 yd3 for the D61EX-15 and 5 yd3 for the D61PX-15. The Komatsu torqflow transmission automatically adjusts clutch engagement to match travel conditions through an Electronic Controlled Modulation Valve. The ECMV provides smooth, shockless clutch engagement for improved component reliability, longer life, and a smoother ride for the operator. Operating weights for the machines range from 36,840 to 41,250 lb.

Transmission and oil filters, power train oil level gauges and the hydraulic tank now are all located on the right side of the dozer. Large gull-wing engine side doors provide quick and easy access to the engine and critical filters. Other features of the new machines include: longer intervals between engine and hydraulic oil changes; power train components that are sealed in a modular design, allowing components to be mounted and dismounted without spillage; a wet, multiple- disc braking system that eliminates adjustments; and improved track life due to larger bushing diameter and link height.

Komatsu says the new hexagonal shape of its dozer cab provides more room for the operator and expands front, side and rear visibility. Internal air pressure and air filters prevent dust from entering the cab, and new cab damper mounts suppress noise and vibration when traveling over rough terrain. A newly designed, fully adjustable, high back suspension seat offers improved fore and aft sliding rails, while a new suspension spring provides increased strength and rigidity. An optional seat can adjust 15° to the right for increased visibility during reverse operations.
