Crushing System Breaking Records in the Powder River Basin

The McLanahan DDF120-40 Dual Drag Feeder and 36 x 120 Model-HC Super Triple Roll Crusher recently commissioned at Arch Coal’s Black Thunder mine, combine to create the highest capacity single truck dump station in the U.S. Rated for 6,000 t/h, Black Thunder reported through-put capacity exceeding the system rating within the first month of operation. The Black Thunder mine feeds ROM coal of up to 72-in. in one dimension to a 750 ton hopper above the McLanahan feeder and crusher system. The McLanahan two-stage crusher produces a final 2- to 3-in. product in one pass to an overland conveyor and into silos where it is loaded directly into train cars heading to power plants across the country. Arch Coal has already placed an order with McLanahan for a second system for the Black Thunder mine, scheduled to come on line in 2008.
