-WOMP Delivers E&MJ to the World’s Doorstep

- Welcome to the first edition of the World of Mining Professionals (WOMP), a new electronic newsletter from Engineering & Mining Journal (E&MJ). This new editorial tool was developed for E&MJ to better serve its readership. With more than 10,000 readers outside North America, no one understands the frustrations of distributing an international trade journal better than E&MJ, except maybe the readers in the most remote mining regions.

Postal systems have improved dramatically over the years, but snail mail is what it is. Mergers and acquisitions are taking place at a frenetic pace as mining companies scramble to acquire reserves and diversify. The news that E&MJ delivers should hit the reader’s Inbox before the company’s name changes. Although many mining engineers live a tramp lifestyle where mailing addresses change frequently, E-mail addresses often remain the same. E&MJ’s growing E-mail network also allows the magazine to foster a better dialogue with its readers and stay in touch with people in some of the most remote parts of the world.

Readers will still continue to receive hard copies of E&MJ. All forms of media have advantages and disadvantages. While WOMP will arrive instantaneously, new media can not compete with old media when it comes to photography, maps, charts, diagrams, etc. Old media still has and will continue to have a clear advantage in that area.

In addition to its reporting value, WOMP will also allow readers easier access to maintain subscriber accounts. Of course, banner ads will have links to some of the latest innovations amongst the vendors that supply mining and mineral processing equipment.

Enjoy this first edition of WOMP and let us know what you think.
